Akabane Festival

First Published November 16, 2019

It's time for this blog to serve its purpose (finally..), and that could only mean one thing.

I am finally going to start posting photos from the serval months I had spent living in Japan. I've been holding off for a long while for many reasons. One of the reasons is that I could never put my experience into words that could do it justice. In my opinion, it's nearly impossible to convey the many complex layers that society has and how it's reflected in just about every aspect.

It's also challenging to write about because I start to daydream and fantasize about my whole experience. I. still can't believe I had the opportunity to stay there for nearly a year. Anytime I see these photos, and my mind transcends back to that place and time.

I would typically walk around the various city (Shinjuku, Shibuya, Ueno,etc..) listening to Kyu Sakamoto sing Japanese covers of classic American 50's music to set the tone when I would go out to take photos.

My heart is yearning for those moments again. Which I am sure is a sentiment that most people will share once they are exposed to the wonders of Tokyo..

Anyways! sweet sounds of Kyu Sakamoto, while you check the photos from the annual Akabane Festival ( my old neighbourhood). Enjoy!

Ps.. I am changing the format of my blog section. I want to make the transition to a "visual journal." I genuinely enjoy sharing my stories with the images I post, but with all the changes in my personal life that I am still attempting to balance out. I'll have to cut back on the writing and make my photography the primary focus. I can guarantee you that you'll see an increase in the rate of postings, especially since I am trying to play catch up with two years of backlogged photos, which makes me cringe when I look back and compare to now.
